Van Gogh Inspired Collage

Description:

In this project, you get to create any kind of landscape you want. I chose to do mountains with a beautiful sunset behind them. We used white acrylic pants to press on the tissue paper for your sky. Some of the tissue papers were mixed together, making the sunset look more realistic. After I finished my sunset, I added mountains in the front of it out of construction paper. Since this was a Van Gogh 'Starry Night' inspiration, I added 3 fun facts about Van Gogh on the orange sheet of paper.

Extension Activity:

An extension activity I could add with this is to have students write a postcard from their landscape. I would have students imagine they are visiting the landscape they created. On a blank postcard template, I'd ask them to write a message to a friend or family member describing what they see, hear, feel, and smell in the scene. Then, I'd encourage them to use vivid sensory details and tie in elements from their artwork, such as the sunset colors, the shape of the landscape, or even how Van Gogh’s style influenced the scene.
