Dot Day

We read "The Dot" by Peter H. Reynolds. For this activity, we used coffee filters, watercolor, crayons, markers, and oil pastels. It was your choice whether you wanted to keep the circle coffee filter shape or cut it into a snowflake or heart. I chose to do a heart since it was during the time of Valentine's Day. I started with my white crayon and wrote my name with some hearts. I then took some markers and created lines so that the marker would bleed once I added water and watercolor paint. Once you add the paint the white crayon starts to show up with the designs I put on there.

Extension Activity:

Color mixing science – Talk about how the water spread the marker colors, what colors mixed, and why it happened.
